A Personal Commitment to Honesty, Integrity, and Relationship Building

Thirty years ago, Tim Griffey was an ambitious 16-year-old who began his career as a construction laborer, digging and pouring basement foundations. He literally learned the business from the ground up as he worked for a number of contractors, quickly graduating to finish carpenter and then to construction superintendent.

Griffey loved the business. He was ready for the next step. He made a commitment to himself and others that when he established his own business, it would reflect his personal desire for quality craftsmanship.

In 1984, when a small contractor for whom he worked decided to get out of the business, Tim struck out on his own as Griffey Custom Homes. His extensive experience working side-by-side with other trades taught him the importance of selecting the best subcontractors, ones that shared his enthusiasm for quality and personal responsibility. This laid the groundwork for his new company and his team of quality trade partners that measure their success one home at a time. The rest, as they say, is history.

Today, that history includes multiple awards. Griffey Custom Homes has won "Homer" awards from the Home Builders Association each consecutive year we've submitted entries to the judges. The Homer Awards are the "Oscars" of the St. Louis Homebuilding Community, an annual competition that recognizes excellence in design, workmanship, and value in residential construction projects throughout the St. Louis area.

Griffey attributes his company's great success in part to the relationships he's formed with his customers. Their letters share a common theme of being impressed by how pleasant the Griffey home building experience was, since building a home is known to be one of life's more stressful endeavors.

Tim Griffey has come a long way from his start 30 years ago in the construction business. Yet, he has never wavered from his devotion to honesty, integrity, quality, and tradition—the cornerstones of Griffey Homes and the secret behind Griffey's success. "Price and selection may sell many products, but when people decide from whom they're going to buy a home, quality and ethics are just as important," Griffey says . This is evidenced in the stacks of testimonial letters he has saved from clients. Please visit the "Testimonials" section of this website to read some of his customers' comments.
